Post News about Faith : from Wired.com

Today, the Academy is boasting of its thriving pagan community - and its friendliness towards spell-casters. In a press release issued Thursday, the Academy features Tech. Sgt. Brandon Longcrier (pictured), "the lay leader for the Academy's Earth-Centered Spirituality community, which includes Wiccans and Pagans from various traditions." (It's part of a larger effort by the school to promote an image of tolerance.)

(Jan 08 2010) - Sale of Land to Israel Threatens to Split Church
Post News about Faith : from IPSNews.net
RAMALLAH -- Israel's bid to keep occupied East Jerusalem under its sovereignty and prevent its incorporation into a future Palestinian state has been boosted over the years with the acquiescence of the Greek Orthodox Church. The church's sale of politically sensitive land in East Jerusalem under dubious circumstances and amidst charges of political blackmail have caused outrage amongst Greek Orthodox Palestinians and threatened to split the church. In a bid to prevent Jerusalems division, Israel has accelerated its Judaisation of East Jerusalem which, under international law, is part of the occupied Palestinian West Bank and which Palestinians wish to see become the capital of their future state.

Post News about Faith : from Gardian.co.uk
ITALY -- Pope Benedict XVI delivered his Christmas Day blessing today hours after being attacked by a woman who jumped the barrier at the start of mass in St Peter's Basilica. The woman was identified as Susanna Maiolo, a Swiss-Italian national with psychiatric problems, who was involved in a similar incident last year, according to Vatican officials. On that occasion, wearing a red sweatshirt similar to the one she wore yesterday, Maiolo jumped the barricade at midnight mass but was tackled to the ground by security before she could reach the pope. Vatican spokesman The Rev Federico Lombardi said Maiolo, 25, had been taken to a clinic for treatment after being arrested yesterday. She was not armed.

(Sept 27 2009) - Why can't Christians unite to change America's ways ?
Post News about Faith : from WorldNetDaily.com
AMERICA -- Study finds faithful can't agree on Bible, government's role, social responsibility : The commonly referenced "God gap" between Republicans and Democrats is disappearing. Polls released before the 2008 election demonstrated America's Christian voters are no longer synonymous with the political right: a George Barna survey showed born-again Christians evenly split between John McCain and Barack Obama, and a Public Religion Research study found that even among white Evangelicals, touchstone issues like abortion and same-sex marriage weren't in their top five voting considerations. If Christian voters share common morals and values, how is it that their voting patterns and priorities aren't more unified?

Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, told the news agency, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."

(Jun 22 2009) - So-Cal churches prepare in case gun violence shows up at the altar :
Post News about Faith : from LosAngelesTimes.com
CALIFORNIA -- One Sunday in March, a man strode down the aisle of the First Baptist Church in Maryville, Ill., pulled out a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol and fired at the pastor. The Rev. Fred Winters deflected the first bullet with his Bible, sending bits of it into the air like confetti. But the next three rounds hit Winters, killing him. It wasn't the first church shooting of 2009 -- in February, a man knelt before a cross at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove and killed himself with a gun -- and it wasn't the last. This month, Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas physician who performed late-term abortions, was shot to death in the foyer of his Wichita church by an anti-abortion protester.

(Jun 14 2009) - Why are young people leaving the church ? :
Post News about Faith : from WorldNetDaily.com
U.S.A. -- Groundbreaking study says Sunday School makes exit more likely -- What does the age of the Earth have to do with the exodus of young people from American churches ? Ken Ham, known for his Answers in Genesis creation-science ministry, says a major study he commissioned by a respected researcher unveils for the first time in a scientific fashion the startling reasons behind statistics that show two-thirds of young people in evangelical churches will leave when they move into their 20s. The study, highlighted in Ham's new book with researcher Britt Beemer, "Already Gone: Why your kids will quit church and what you can do to stop it," finds church youth already are "lost" in their hearts and minds in elementary, middle and high school not in college as many assume.

The couple, whose names are being withheld until a demand letter can be filed on their behalf, told their attorney a county government employee knocked on their door on Good Friday, asking a litany of questions about their Tuesday night Bible studies, which are attended by approximately 15 people. "Do you have a regular weekly meeting in your home? Do you sing? Do you say 'amen'?" the official reportedly asked. "Do you say, 'Praise the Lord'?" The pastor's wife answered yes.

(May 04 2009) - Peres wants to yield sovereignty over holy sites to Pope :
Post News about Faith : from IsrealInsider.com
ISRAEL -- Hinting at a secret agreement with the Vatican, Israeli President Shimon Peres and his former sidekick Yossi Beilin are pressuring the government of Israel to yield sovereignty over six holy sites to the Catholic Church. Pope Benedict XVI is arriving in Israel next week and sources speculate this is connected to the land handover. But Interior Minister from the Shas Party, Eli Yishai, refuses to authorize the deal and the Tourism Minister is also skeptical about the surrender of Israeli control over the Biblical sites. Army Radio said that the president was heavily pressuring the government to surrender sovereignty over six sites, including the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, the Coenaculum on Mount Zion (which Jews believe to contain the tomb of King David), the Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, and the Church of the Multiplication on the Kinneret.

Post News about Faith : from AfricanPost.com
QATAR -- Maverick Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi stole the show at Monday's Arab summit, insulting Saudi King Abdullah and proclaiming himself "king of kings of Africa" before storming out to visit a museum. But the flamboyant Kadhafi also left the door open for reconciliation with Abdullah, whose Western-backed kingdom is a regional heavyweight and the world's largest oil exporter. "It has been six years since you have been avoiding a confrontation with me," Kadhafi snapped, just as summit host Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani was ending his speech. "You are always lying and you're facing the grave and you were made by Britain and protected by the United States," Kadhafi told Abdullah in front of 15 other leaders attending the annual gathering.

(Mar 10 2009) - Belief and the brain's 'God spot' :
Post News about Faith : from The Independent News Service
U.K. - Scientists say they have located the parts of the brain that control religious faith. And the research proves, they contend, that belief in a higher power is an evolutionary asset that helps human survival. Steve Connor reports. A belief in God is deeply embedded in the human brain, which is programmed for religious experiences, according to a study that analyses why religion is a universal human feature that has encompassed all cultures throughout history. Scientists searching for the neural "God spot", which is supposed to control religious belief, believe that there is not just one but several areas of the brain that form the biological foundations of religious belief.

Post Faith Articles : by Post Editor : editor@portervillepost.com
Click to Enlarge PORTERVILLE CA. - In Chapter 20:16 in Mathew's Gosple of the Bible {KJV} it says "... for many be called, but few are chosen" and for Christopher Gudino from Porterville, that meant answering the call to Missions - which also meant leaving his place of comfort, his home, family, friends and his Church. Additionally it meant his measure of faith had to be increased to prepare him for a missions trip to the Republic of Fiji. The first time the Post interviewed Mr. Gudino, was inside one of the exit isles of Town and Country market. Christopher and his family was preparing to check out as was I and that's when we first struck up a conversation about the LORD. Christopher couldn't wait to express his faith in JESUS CHRIST and how GOD was moving in his life and preparing him for this mission.

Just about a hundred or so Christians from Mission De Jesus spanned the sidewalks around Veterans Park parading placards and signs signifying GODs concern and Love. Jaime Ramos, Joel Rodriquez and Jose Pena, who the Post first interviewed on Morton said, We are trying to tell the People of Porterville that they need to put their faith in Christ and not the crisis. All three had a testimony how GOD came into their lives and changed them for the good. One of the yong men that the Post talked with said, "Even though I felt at times I was being forced into believing, I know now that this was the only way GOD could have gotten through to me."

(Jan 17 2009) - Alien Abductions Stopped by the Name of Jesus Christ :
Post News about Faith : from UFO Digest
U.S.A. - (www.UFODigest.com) Dirk Vander Ploeg, the Publisher of UFO Digest, recently asked me if I knew of alien abductions having been stopped by the utterance of the name of Jesus. He told me that apparently this information is being withheld by Mufon and other reporters, investigators etc. I reminded him that I had written about the possibility of such occurrences in several articles including, Extraterrestrials Tremble at the Name of Jesus, UFO Digest March 29, 2007, and more recently The Birth of Christ caused the Extraterrestrial Fallen Angels to Tremble, UFO Digest, December 3, 2008. The word of God tells us that demons (as well as fallen angels, i.e. extraterrestrials) tremble at the name of Jesus (James 2:19) because God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above all names (Philippians 2:9). At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow of those on the earth, and those under the earth and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10).

(Jan 15 2009) - Prosperity Gospel on Skid Row :
Post News about Faith : from Christianity Today
U.S.A. - (Christianity Today) Some of the high-flying icons of the prosperity gospelthe belief that God rewards signs of faith with wealth, health, and happinesshave run into financial turbulence. Not all of their troubles can be blamed on the nation's economic crisis, say critics of the name-it-and-claim-it theology found in some charismatic churches. "I believe the charismatic movement, of which I am a part, is in the midst of a dramatic overhaul," said J. Lee Grady, editor of Charisma magazine. "God is shaking us." Grady predicts the movement will look much different in a few years as it refocuses on evangelism and overcoming what he calls the distraction of "materialism, flashy self-promotion, and foolish carnality." But Scott Thumma, a Hartford Seminary sociologist who studies megachurches, is not so certain.

(Jan 13 2009) - Religious Freedom Day, 2009 :
Post News about Faith : from President George Bush at The White House
WASH D.C. - [ A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America ]
Religious freedom is the foundation of a healthy and hopeful society. On Religious Freedom Day, we recognize the importance of the 1786 passage of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. We also celebrate the first liberties enshrined in our Constitution's Bill of Rights, which guarantee the free exercise of religion for all Americans and prohibit an establishment of religion. Our Nation was founded by people seeking haven from religious persecution, and the religious liberty they found here remains one of this land's greatest blessings. As Americans, we believe that all people have inherent dignity and worth. Though we may profess different creeds and worship in different manners and places, we respect each other's humanity and expression of faith. People with diverse views can practice their faiths here while living together in peace and harmony, carrying on our Nation's noble tradition of religious freedom. The United States also stands with religious dissidents and believers from around the globe who practice their faith peacefully. Freedom is not a grant of government or a right for Americans alone; it is the birthright of every man, woman, and child throughout the world. No human freedom is more fundamental than the right to worship in accordance with one's conscience.

(Jan 02 2009) - Vatican divorces from Italian law :
Post News about Faith : from BBC News by David Willey
ROME, ITALY - WE ARE ABOVE THE LAW : The Vatican City State, the world's smallest sovereign state, has decided to divorce itself from Italian law. Vatican legal experts say there are too many laws in Italian civil and criminal codes, and that they frequently conflict with Church principles. With effect from New Year's Day, the Pope has decided that the Vatican will no longer automatically adopt laws passed by the Italian parliament. All Italian laws will be examined one by one before they are adopted. Under the Lateran treaties signed exactly 80 years ago between Italy and the Pope, and the Italian Parliamentary system, Italian laws were applied automatically. No more ...

(Sept 04 2008) - Anaheim high school must allow Bible club :
Post News about Faith : from Los Angeles Times
LOS ANGELES - A federal court judge issues the ruling, citing other Esperanza campus groups he says are not related to academics. Until the federal court ruling, students had been prevented from starting a Bible club at Esperanza High School in Anaheim. Placentia-Yorba Linda School District officials argued that only curriculum-related groups are allowed on campus. But in issuing a preliminary injunction last Thursday, U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney said that Esperanza does allow other groups -- such as a Red Cross club -- to meet on campus, even though he said they are not directly related to academics.

(Jul 09 2008) - Britain okays human-pig embryo :
Post News about Faith : by Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow
Click to Read BRITAIN - A license to create human-pig embryos has been granted in Great Britain. An American professor says the moral and ethical implications of that decision have not been thought out. There are moral ethics involved, says Dr. Mark Mostert of Regent University. He believes that, in this case, technology has "outstripped our thinking," and contends that the creation of human-animal embryos presents the potential for doing a great deal of harm. "...[W]e've not thought through on a moral and ethical level what this means for the future," he maintains. Plus, he points out that embryo research has not produced results.

Always Remember ...

Rev. Martin Niemoller, commenting on events in Germany 1933-1939 once said :

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time, no one was left to speak up." -- Arrested on July 1, 1937 by the Third Reich

Are we a Christian Country ?

Did you know that Billy Graham stated that the United States of America is not a Christian country.

Click here to view the following televised interview by David Frost with Billy Graham on May 30, 1997.

David Frost: So is this still a Christian Country ?

Billy Graham: No ! We're not a Christian country. We've never been a Christian Country. We're a secular Country, by our constitution. In which Christians live and which many Christians have a voice. But we're not a Christian Country.
