»  (May 02 2008) - Duggin’s Citrus Express plays country standards on Main

If you didn’t get a chance to listen to Sally Barbaric belt out a few country and western standards, you really missed out. Sally, backed up by Duggin’s Citrus Express was live and on-stage in down town Porterville at their usual get-together on the Friday night.

Sally, who’s been in and around the band for almost 12 years, is one of their many lead singers. “What the band does on stage is basically a jam session, says Susan Newsom – another lead signer for DCE – we never know who’s gonna show up and join in on a number.”
Duggin's Citrus Express on Main Street

Historically, Ms Newson told the Post, the band was called “The Friday Night Group” and started out 12 years ago at Golden Hills mobile home park and out grew their space and moved over to the Santa Fe Depot, where they continue to “Jam” every Friday night … except in the summer months, and that’s when their on Main Street.

Members of the band include Mr. Jimmy Duggins, who plays lead guitar. According to Ms Newsom – the unofficial spokesperson for the band - “Most of the time when others come to play with us, no one wants to fill Jim position. He’s the lead and he does a great job.”

Kenny Sinner, {not present} is the bands keyboard player. Ms Newsom told the Post that “Ken has written his own material and has some originals that the band plays. In a few weeks we going to the studio to cut a new CD, that way we can have a demo for other places outside of the local Porterville area.

Jack Guthrie, Ms Newson shared handles the peddles on the old steel guitar pretty good, while Bob Bartlett takes care of the base and Dave Wieland beats the drums.

All-in-all, the band had a great time and you can catch one of their sessions, at the Santa Fe Depot, if you missed out on the fun they had on Main Street.
