PORTERVILLE, CA -- On May 26, 2016, at 6pm, Michael Reed, Acting Public Works Director, will be speaking to the Porterville Area Republican Assembly regarding the Groundwater Sustainability Act, State-mandated water conservation measures, aging infrastructure and other pressing issues financially impacting the City of Porterville's Water Operating Fund. The presentation will be held at the Porterville Freewill Baptist Church at 91 N. Prospect Street. PARA's second "Special Speaker" will be Congressional Candidate Ken Mettle from Kern County.

LINDSAY, CA ï¿½ McDermont Field House today announces the opening of the Flowrider indoor surf machine on Friday, September 19 at 4:00 pm. ï¿½After much anticipation, weï¿½ve received the stateï¿½s final certification and we are now ready to surf in Lindsay,ï¿½ stated Assistant General Manager Brad Albert. The Flowrider at McDermont Field House is the Central Valleyï¿½s newest water attraction and the only indoor Flowrider surf machine in the state of California. Flowrider sessions are sold in one-hour increments. The price for one hour of Body Boarding (Boogie boarding) is $12, and one hour of Flowboarding (surfing) is $18.

PORTERVILLE, CA -- The new Fall show is now up at the Porterville Art Associationï¿½s Gallery, 152 North Main Street. Over 100 Pieces of art from local artists are on display and many are for sale. The gallery is free and open to the public Wednesday through Saturday 10 AM until 4 PM. Our local area has many very talented artists. Watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil, collage, photography, gourds, sculpture , bronze work and ceramics are all represented in this new show. The show will run through the end of the year. The gallery number is 559-784-4323. A new "Featured Artistï¿½s Show" is also being shown at the gallery. Featured in this show is student work of local artists who hold art classes here in Porterville. This mini show is displayed down the center of the gallery. Several of our very talented artistï¿½s hold classes in the in the gallery and around town to people of all ages interested in learning art. Watercolor, oil, pastel, charcoal and pencil are the media of this show that will run until the end of October.

PORTERVILLE, CA -- This afternoon at the Porterville Fair Grounds, Peter and Jose Miranda from JM Events, put together one hoppinï¿½ car show that many car enthusiasts enjoyed. Cars and car clubs came from all over California to be at this new event in Porterville and many car clubs told the Post theyï¿½d contact other clubs concerning come back next year. ï¿½I started putting together cars shows about 7 years ago in Tulare, says Jose Miranda, and each year JM Events produces annual events, parades and Cinco de Mayoï¿½s. We all have a great time and we hope to return to Porterville next year.ï¿½ As hot at is was, the people were really having a good time. Jose added, for this special event, it took me and my brother about a month to put together, which is fast. It usually takes about 3 to 4 months to hook up with everyone so they can check their calendars. And then there are those who didnï¿½t hear about the event until the last minute and so we allowed them to register as well ï¿½ since this was the first time in Porterville.

And for the most part Main Street was sectioned off as crowds came and went through out the morning and into the afternoon. Of course food and vender booths set up their displays along with many well known and fully restored cars from Rolinï¿½ Relics car club. This year, at the Second annual ï¿½Hot Summer Days Music Festival and Car and Bike Showï¿½ Portervilleï¿½s Student Emergency Response Training (TEEN SERT) organization received benefit from the efforts of a few local businesses, mainly Melissa Lentzner from Tantrums clothing store and a newly formed motor cycle club ...
» (Aug 01 2008) - Step Up Youth Summit T-Shirt Art Contest
Do you know a Tulare County student who has artistic abilities? The planning committee for the Step Up Youth Summit invites young people to submit a color logo design and an appropriate event slogan for the conference, scheduled for Thursday, November 20, at the Visalia Convention Center. The logo and slogan will be used primarily on the summit's T-shirt, which will be given to all attendees. Any Tulare County student may submit a design and slogan. Students are encouraged to develop a slogan relating to the purpose of the event, which is to "connect, educate, equip and inspire" Tulare County young people to live violence- and drug-free lifestyles, pursue educational achievement, and connect to their community. In addition to the T-shirts, the logo may also be used on the Youth Summit's programs and posters.
The winning artist will receive special recognition at the conference.
Students are encouraged to propose designs which cover any area of the front of the shirt, including the sides and the sleeves. The back of the shirt will be reserved for the Tulare County Step Up logo. For students submitting electronic artwork, the image must be a minimum of 8.5" x 11" and 300 dpi. Hand-drawn artwork will also be accepted if submitted on 8.5" x 11" or larger paper.

PORTERVILLE - Jackie ï¿½Bï¿½ Stole the Show with her 1986 Pitts S-1T. Weighing almost 850 pounds, this special made bi-plane pulled some ï¿½Gï¿½s for the Porterville crowds. ï¿½ It has been eleven years since Porterville has had an air show like this, said ï¿½Jacquie Bï¿½ and I was more than happy to start this show for the folks in Porterville.ï¿½ In our exclusive interview with Jacquie B, we learned that sheï¿½s had her pilotï¿½s license for 22 years and she didnï¿½t start flying aerobaticly until 1998, ten years ago. Sheï¿½s been flying in air shows for six years now and told the Post, ï¿½ ï¿½ ever since a friend took me up in a plane and flew me up-side-down, I knew this is what I wanted to do. And believe me, youï¿½ll either love it or hate it.ï¿½

If you didnï¿½t get a chance to listen to Sally Barbaric belt out a few country and western standards, you really missed out. Sally, backed up by Dugginï¿½s Citrus Express was live and on-stage in down town Porterville at their usual get-together on the Friday night. Sally, whoï¿½s been in and around the band for almost 12 years, is one of their many lead singers. ï¿½What the band does on stage is basically a jam session, says Susan Newsom ï¿½ another lead signer for DCE ï¿½ we never know whoï¿½s gonna show up and join in on a number.ï¿½ Historically, Ms Newson told the Post, the band was called ï¿½The Friday Night Groupï¿½ and started out 12 years ago at Golden Hills mobile home park and out grew their space and moved over to the Santa Fe Depot, where they continue to ï¿½Jamï¿½ every Friday night, except in the summer months and thatï¿½s when their on Main St.

Today Porterville got another treat when the Porterville's Rollin' Relics car club displayed what was near and dear to their hearts -- their cars. And boy-O'-boy did they put on a show. This was their Eighth Annual Car and Motorcycle Show were all glad they had it at Veterans Park. All of the proceeds, the Post was told, was raised to benefit the youth in the Porterville area. Now ... here's the story about how "The Youth" got on the front page. We figured, since this was about helping the youth out, the Post {A.L.Lucketta} took it a step further. We asked if they wanted to be on the front page of the Post and of course they said YES ! We then asked them what were they willing to do to get on the front page ? One said, "What do you want us to do ?" This is what we said ...

Even though this is a fundraiser, the main objective is to raise public awareness of mental illness, provide education, and to help remove the STIGMA commonly associated with mentally ill people.
