» EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER - 11/09/11 :
EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM (EAS) TEST OCCURRING WEDNESDAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE :
First Ever Nationwide Test of the System Occurring at 11 A.M. PST
TULARE COUNTY - This Wednesday November 9, 2011, the first National
test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will be conducted. Across the
nation, individuals will hear the familiar tones, or see the test
message across their television screens saying "this is a test".
This first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS)
gives federal, state and local officials the opportunity to make sure
vital life-safety information can be communicated from the nation's
capital to the public via broadcasters and cable operators.
Officials say the nationwide test, as well as the common weekly and
monthly EAS tests that take place, should reassure the public that
local, state and federal officials are doing what they can to ensure
emergency information and instructions are available.
While the public does not need to take any action during the test, the
Tulare County Office of Emergency Services urges residents to take this
opportunity to review and update their emergency plans and replenish
their emergency supplies. Individuals may also wish to use the test as a
chance to exercise their own emergency plans.
