Candidate Campaign Info :
My name is Taha Saleh and I am a local businessman. I was born and raised in Porterville - attending all local schools that my children now attend.
I am an active volunteer in youth activities and a graduate of Leadership Porterville class of 2011. I enjoy public service and it's something that I feel in my heart is the right thing to do.
I am running for the office of city council member to restore respect and dignity back to our council. The city cannot afford to have a game of musical chairs with past politician's taking turns at the helm.
As Council Member, I will seek greater participation from the community, strive to protect and enhance community services, work towards solutions to enhance our downtown, and seek ways to protect and upgrade our critical infrastructure.
The courthouse and county jail additions are good projects for Porterville that will help revitalize downtown and bring family supporting wages. However we need to stop depending on government spending and jobs to spur growth.
I will work tirelessly with the other council members to promote Porterville and achieve good growth. I will work to encourage the council to put pressure on county and state officials to get access to our town.
We need to see improvement to highway 65 and highway 190 to allow commercial and industrial growth. Working with the council, I will continue to see to it that our police have access to the resources needed to meet the ever-changing challenges those brave citizens face.
Talking to our local firefighters, it's a concern that a large percentage of there time goes towards attending routine health issues instead of fighting fires.
We need to address the growing poverty and lack of educated citizens. Our local Emergency Room should not be anyone's primary care facility.
Being on the council, I will use my position to provide a positive role model to our youth, showing them there true potential. Our council needs to work toward solutions to retain and recruit our own talent. I would love nothing better than for my children and any other family's children to grow up, get a quality education, and are able to come back home to Porterville and implement it. This is how we get long lasting change in our community.
One of my greatest assets is the ability to think outside of my interests, to think what benefits the majority over what is good a few. I bring business experience to the council, insuring that we continue to have a balanced budget, well-funded departments, and avoid costly utility increases.
Porterville needs someone who is not afraid to challenge the status quo of how things are done in our city, someone with an alternative prospective and abundance of energy to revive our council. I will communicate with the public on what the issues are and will value their input on key decisions. I will work towards long-term solutions that would put our town back on the right track.
Porterville needs a leader with the long-term vision that will surpass his term, who has grown up in this town, understands our diverse community, and represents all citizens. When you vote, think of a candidate that has integrity, dedication and accountability.
Vote for Taha Saleh on June 5th.
