On January 28, 2009 at approximately 8:56 PM officers of the Porterville Police Department were dispatched to the area of Morton Avenue and Belmont Street in regards to an injury traffic collision, vehicle versus pedestrian.
Upon arrival officers found an unconscious male lying in the roadway. The involved vehicle had stopped just west of the collision scene.
The male pedestrian had suffered a severe head wound and was immediately transported by ambulance to a location where he could be air-lifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. The driver of the car was not injured.
The pedestrian has been identified as Salvador Montoya, 39 years old of Porterville. The driver is identified as Cherie Coon, 40 years old, also of Porterville. Mr. Montoya has been admitted to CRMC in serious condition with leg and head injuries.
The pedestrian was crossing Morton Avenue west of Belmont Street when he was struck by the westbound sedan. He was not in a crosswalk. The collision is being investigated by the Porterville Police Department, Major Accident Investigation Team.
