On January 10, 2009, at approximately 11:47 PM, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle traffic collision on Plano north of Westfield. When emergency personnel arrived they found that one of the vehicles occupants had been ejected when the vehicle rolled over. The driver was pinned inside. Two other passengers had also been inside and had already exited the vehicle.
The ejected passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was extricated and transported to Sierra View District Hospital along with another passenger. The remaining passenger was not injured. The driver sustained critical injuries and was later transported to Community regional Medical Center in Fresno. The injured passenger was admitted at Sierra View District Hospital.
The vehicle, a 1995 Ford Windstar van, had been southbound on Plano when the driver lost control, drifting off the west side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected to the left and overturned coming to rest on the east side of the roadway.
The vehicle had been reported stolen in Porterville at approximately 7:00 PM. The occupants were all identified as juvenile Porterville residents. The investigation is continuing by the Major Accident Investigation Team.
