Traffic Collision by Driver with No License

On February 23, 2009 at approximately 16:15 PM officers from the Porterville Police Department were dispatched to Porter Road, just half a block north of Olive Avenue to assist in a rear-end collision. Neither drivers were injured however, both vehicles were damaged. Once both drivers got out of their vehicles, the female driver of the late model white Nissan attempted to blame the driver of the white Ford truck, Mr. Billy Cooper, saying he was at fault because he didn't go when the light turned green.

On January 28, 2009 at approximately 8:56 PM officers of the Porterville Police Department were dispatched to the area of Morton Avenue and Belmont Street in regards to an injury traffic collision, vehicle versus pedestrian. Upon arrival officers found an unconscious male lying in the roadway. The involved vehicle had stopped just west of the collision scene. The male pedestrian had suffered a severe head wound and was immediately transported by ambulance to a location where he could be air-lifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

On January 10, 2009, at approximately 11:47 PM, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle traffic collision on Plano north of Westfield. When emergency personnel arrived they found that one of the vehicles occupants had been ejected when the vehicle rolled over. The driver was pinned inside. Two other passengers had also been inside and had already exited the vehicle. The ejected passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was extricated and transported to Sierra View District Hospital along with another passenger.

On December 29, 2008 at 4:30P.M. members of the Porterville Police and Fire Department responded to Main Street north of Linda Vista regarding an injury traffic collision. The driver of a Plymouth Van, Pedro Hernandez, was traveling northbound on Main Street north of Linda Vista when his vehicle veered off the roadway hitting two orange trees before colliding into a telephone pole. The vehicle came to rest when it struck a third orange tree. Hernandez was transported to Sierra View District Hospital by ambulance for a medical condition which is unknown if this was a factor associated with the collision.

On December 28, 2008 at approximately 6:07 p.m. officers responded to the intersection of Henderson Avenue and Second Street in the City of Porterville on a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. The Porterville Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to investigate the collision. The investigation revealed that an 80 year old female was walking southbound across Henderson Avenue in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle which was traveling eastbound on Henderson Avenue.

On Saturday September 28, 2008 at 1100 PM on highway 190, drunk driver flew off the road and unto a utility pole next to Porterville College. The driver, a young Hispanic male, was driving a black sedan a high speeds, swerving on the highway and almost collided with other drivers before he drove his car off the road. I personally witnessed firework like sparks coming from the college as I was heading westbound on HWY 190 and pulled over to see what happened. When I reached the scene of the collision a fire broke out in the brush area and the car.

On September 11, 2008, at 8:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Olive Avenue and Holcomb Street in regards to a reported injury traffic collision. Upon arrival officers found a 14 year old injured female. The collision investigation revealed that the female was crossing Olive Avenue in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle being driven eastbound on Olive Avenue.

On September 9, 2008 at approximately 8:46 p.m. officers responded to a vehicle vs. a bicyclist traffic collision at the intersection of Highway 190 and Jaye Street. The investigation revealed Lucas Espinola was riding his bicycle northbound on Jaye Street at Highway 190. Mr. Espinola failed to stop for the red light and continued northbound through the intersection of Highway 190. Mr. Espinola traveled into the path of Steven Rivera, who was driving a 1995 Honda Civic westbound on Highway 190. Mr. Rivera’s speed was estimated at 55 mph.
