My phone has been ringing off the hook with thanks from friends, supporters and people I don't even know showing their appreciation for working towards defeating Measure J. We worked hard to defeat this measure, Porterville Unified School Districts massive $90 million dollar tax increase on the backs of home owners. PORTERVILLE, CA -- I have enjoyed reading stories from the Snavely Magical Promise Tour. Every article contains the same key words, "possibilities", "could be" or "might be" when used to describe how Measure J proceeds could be used. Has one article ever used the words "will be"? Not when you make bogus promises to garner votes. Remember the promises of athletic stadiums & sports complexes? Coaches in the district got a belly laugh out of those shallow statements. PORTERVILLE, CA -- In the last few weeks, I have read in the Recorder how PUSD will use funds from their $90 million bond/TAX to build a new athletic stadium at the adult school, a swimming complex at Strathmore, repair & light existing athletic fields, light basketball courts, upgrade district technology, replace portable classrooms, etc. At the Monache back to school night, principal Dick Smithey stated that Monache would get their own stadium, auditorium, performing arts center & new campus center with the funds raised by this bond/TAX. PORTERVILLE, CA -- Burton's recent decision not to pursue a parcel tax on this November ballot highlights the differences between the Burton School District Board of Trustees & Porterville Unified School District Trustees. Burton's board member Phillip Gianetto asked a very telling and appropriate question in relation to the parcel tax "Before asking anyone for money, have we done everything that we can?"
