On December 16th, 2008, the Porterville Police Department began investigating the circumstances surrounding approximately $4,700 in fraudulent credit card charges made to the account of a 73 year old male Porterville resident.
A suspect had been identified by the victim as Clarabett Ledger, a family acquaintance who had been hired to provide care for the victim and his wife. The case was assigned to Detective Jeff Dowling from the Porterville Police Department’s General Investigations Unit for investigation.
Through the course of the investigation evidence was obtained positively identifying Ledger as the person responsible for making numerous fraudulent charges to the victims credit card account. Ledger had used the victim’s credit card at numerous businesses in Porterville, Tulare, and Visalia.
On December 30, 2008, Clarabett Ledger was arrested by Porterville Police Detectives on charges of financial elder abuse and credit card fraud. Ledger was booked with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.
