On December 13, 2008, at approximately 9:15 p.m., officers from the Porterville Police Department responded to an alarm call at Weisenberger’s Hardware at 875 W. Olive Avenue. When officers arrived they found a glass door to the business had been shattered. After searching the business it was discovered that $88.00 worth of consumable merchandise had been taken and the suspect(s) responsible had fled.
On December 16, 2008, at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers again responded to the business on an alarm call. When officers arrived they discovered another door to the business had been shattered. Upon searching the business, Officer Jeremy Painter located a 14 year old male hiding inside the business. Officer Painter detained the juvenile and took him into custody without incident.
Detective Jeff Dowling from the Porterville Police Department’s General Investigations Unit was called out to assume the investigation. During the course of the investigation the juvenile confessed to being the suspect responsible for both burglaries.
Information was also obtained as to the location of the stolen property. The property was recovered and it was discovered that the property had been destroyed or otherwise rendered unsuitable for the business to sell. The juvenile was booked at the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility on multiple charges of burglary.
