On November 29, 2008 at approximately 11:30 p.m. Officer Sutherland stopped Jonathan Hernandez for a traffic violation in the area of Henderson Avenue and Newcomb Street within the City of Porterville. Mr. Hernandez was driving a passenger vehicle.
Mr. Hernandez displayed the objective symptoms of intoxication and was taken into custody for DUI.
A search of the vehicle revealed a fully loaded pistol that was accessible by Mr. Hernandez and passenger Julian Sanchez. The firearm was concealed in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
Mr. Sanchez was arrested at the scene for possession of a loaded firearm.
Further investigation revealed the firearm was not registered. Both suspects were booked into Tulare County Jail on a felony charge of possession of a loaded firearm.
Mr. Hernandez was also charged with one count of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
