Officers responded to the 100 block of North Villa Street regarding a disturbance. Officer Maniss arrived on scene and observed a vehicle that appeared to be fleeing from a residence.
He contacted two female occupants who were hysterical and screaming that a suspect was attempting to attack them with a hammer. One of the victims had also sustained a small cut to her neck from the suspect.
Officer Maniss responded to the scene and found an additional victim who had been struck in the face with a hammer. The victim sustained a minor abrasion to the bridge of his nose.
The residence was searched for the suspect; however, he fled out of a back door prior to police arrival. The suspect was identified as Gabriel Vasquez and was determined to be on State Parole.
Officer Knox began investigating the crime and Officer Maniss began checking the area on foot. Officer Maniss located Vasquez in front of 636 W. Putnam Avenue and he was taken into custody without incident. The victims and witnesses positively identified the suspect. California Department of Corrections Parole was contacted and advised of the incident.
A parole violation was issued as well. Vasquez was booked at the substation regarding charges of Domestic Violence, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and a Parole Violation.
