On June 24, 2008, the Porterville Police Department began investigating allegations that an unidentified subject had fraudulently cashed numerous checks in the Porterville area. These checks had been made out to the victim and the unidentified suspect had cashed them, assuming the victims identity.
The investigation was conducted by Detective Rick Carrillo of the Porterville Police Department’s General Investigations Unit. During the course of the investigation evidence was obtained identifying Kristi Lea Cain as the person responsible for fraudulently cashing the checks. Evidence was also obtained identifying Richard Lee Moore as having attempted to conceal Ms. Cain’s criminal actions.
On November 4, 2008, detectives from the Porterville Police Department’s General Investigations Unit contacted Mr. Moore in the 500 block of West Kanai where he was taken into custody on an active felony arrest warrant pertaining to this investigation.
Ms. Cain was also taken into custody later this same date on an active felony warrant for her actions in this case. Both subjects were released after posting bail.
