Brandishing a Firearm, Gang Enhancement
(Oct 24 2008) - Porterville Police Dept - Press Release
by Sgt. Larry Rodriguez - Porterville Police Dept :

On October 14, 2008, at approximately 6:20 p.m. several subjects were in the 1500 block of W. River Avenue when a male subject threatened them with a shotgun after flashing gang signs.

When the individuals attempted to leave the area the suspect gave chase in a vehicle. The victims were eventually able to elude the suspect at which time they reported the incident to the Porterville Police Department.

Detectives with the Porterville Police Department General Investigations Unit investigated the incident and subsequently identified Jesse Phillip Kates as the person responsible and obtained a search warranted for his residence.

Based on the severity of the crime along with the potential for violence and the presence of weapons, the search warrant was served by the Porterville Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team on October 24, 2008, at approximately 7:15 a.m.

Upon service of the search warrant Jesse Kates was located at his residence and was taken into custody without incident. Inside the residence ammunition and assorted firearms paraphernalia were located.

Also located inside the residence was gang indicia. Jesse Kates was booked with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.
