(Oct 15 2008) - Porterville Police Dept - Press Release
by Sgt. Larry Rodriguez - Porterville Police Dept :
On October 14, Officers responded to a report of gang activity in the area of Morton Avenue and Porter Road. Upon arrival, Officer Ward contacted the victim who reported he was walking home from work when he was approached by two subjects.
The subjects, later identified as Rafael Ojeda and Jose Hernandez, asked the victim if he was a Southern Gang member. Hernandez then brandished a switchblade knife and Ojeda told the victim he had a gun and would shoot him. Ojeda demanded the victim’s money and watch.
The victim was able to flee from the suspects and get away until officers arrived in the area. An area check did not turn up the suspects.
On October 15, Officer Ward continued the investigation and located both Ojeda and Hernandez. They were positively identified and arrested. A search of Hernandez’s clothing revealed he still had the switchblade knife in his pocket.
Hernandez and Ojeda were both booked at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Porterville Substation for Attempted Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and a Gang Enhancement.
