On October 4, 2008, at approximately 12:01 AM, officers with the Porterville Police Department were dispatched to the 1000 Block of West Grand Avenue regarding a shooting victim.
Officers arrived and found an adult male later identified as Samuel Guzman lying on the ground being given first aid. Samuel Guzman had been shot a single time with an unknown type firearm.
Samuel Guzman was transported by ambulance to Sierra View District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives were called to the crime scene and assumed the investigation. Investigators learned the victim had been in the front yard of a residence at a social gathering.
Two unknown male suspects approached the residence and began yelling gang slurs at the party goers. One of the suspects then fired several rounds into the crowd striking Samuel Guzman in the head. The suspects then fled the area eastbound on Grand Avenue.
