On September 25, 2008, at approximately 12:25 p.m., officers with the Porterville Police Department responded to La Sierra High School regarding a fight.
After the officers arrived they learned that several juveniles were in lunch time detention when a fight occurred. Three of the juveniles started yelling gang slurs to another juvenile in the class. The three juveniles then attacked the juvenile victim.
During the altercation other juveniles attempted to break-up the fight and were also assaulted. One of the juvenile victims was assaulted with a small two inch dagger that was in possession of one of the suspects.
This juvenile victim was taken to Sierra View Hospital where the juvenile received treatment for a small cut to the head and scratches to the arm. The victim was then released from the hospital to her parents.
The three suspects fled the school, but one of the juveniles was located near by and arrested without incident. Detectives from the Porterville Police Department were also called to assist in the investigation. The weapon used in this case was recovered.
The juvenile that was taken into custody was transported and booked at the Visalia Juvenile Detention Facility for assault with a deadly weapon. The juvenile is being held without bail.
Detectives on September 29, 2008, were able to locate the remaining two outstanding juveniles, who were also charged and booked.
