On September 17, 2008 at approximately 10:42 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 400 block of West Springville Avenue regarding a large gang fight in progress. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed several subjects fleeing on foot.
The victims were contacted at the scene. During the confrontation a 61 year old female was struck with a beer bottle which caused moderate injury to her head. The victim told officers a subject had struck her in the head with a beer bottle. Another victim was located and found to have sustained a minor facial injury that was allegedly caused by a subject striking him in the face.
Detectives from the Porterville Police Department Special Investigation Unit assisted in the investigation and soon identified and located the suspect, Jose Saul Arroyo. Mr. Arroyo was located by detectives in a nearby apartment complex.
Mr. Arroyo ran from detectives who pursued him into an apartment. Mr. Arroyo physically resisted arrest and forced officers to deploy a taser. Mr. Arroyo was then taken into custody without any further incident.
Mr. Jose Saul Arroyo was booked into Tulare County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, felony battery, resisting arrest and being a member of a criminal street gang.
