On September 3, 2008 at approximately 8:46 p.m. Officers responded to a confidential address in Porterville regarding a disturbance. While officers were en-route they were advised that an intoxicated male adult cut his wrists with a knife.
Upon arrival responding officers discovered the suicidal subject had already fled the residence on foot.
Officers observed a large amount of blood at the residence and began searching for the subject, who was actively evading the searchers. A Porterville Police Department K-9 team and a California Highway Patrol helicopter were called in to assist with the search.
After an extensive two hour search the subject was located hiding in the riverbed by the K-9 team. The subject was transported to Sierra View District Hospital with a substantial loss of blood but was expected to make a full recovery.
The subject was detained at the hospital pending an evaluation from Tulare County Mental Health workers.
