On Monday, July 7, 2008, the Porterville Police Department were called out to the home of victim Brenda Lopez who reported that her sister in-law Patricia Arriaga was believed to have stolen her 2000 Mitsubishi Gallant, from her home.
The family member filed a stolen auto report. Officers were later in the morning called back to the Lopez home who reported the vehicle had been returned and the suspect Patricia Arriaga was waiting to speak to the police.
Officers met with the suspect who told officers she was aware she had no permission to use the vehicle but took the vehicle in order to attend a party.
Arriaga was arrested and charged with grand theft auto. She was booked at Bob Wiley Detention facility.
