The time 3:30 pm, just after school let out. The place … Henderson Avenue and highway 65. The Hang up … a fender-bender at the light between a Chevy pick-up and a small late model Honda Accord. Guess who went to the hospital and guess who went to the wrecking yard ?
As a precaution, the first responders took the passengers in the pick-up to the hospital and the tow truck took the Honda to a garage.
“At this time of day, Henderson Ave is one of the worst streets to travel on” a spectator told the Post. Another after-witness who was eating at a local diner said “Who would have ever thought that Porterville would someday have traffic like this and as many accidents. It’s almost once a week we see fender-benders on Henderson.”
Arriving before the ambulance and police was the Post. Traveling west on Henderson the Post saw the white Chevy pick-up slowly rolling to a stop in the intersection Henderson and the Highway 65 on-ramp. We stopped to assist the drivers of both vehicles and were given the “Ok” sign from both drivers.
30 seconds later the police arrive, followed shortly by an ambulance.
Now … the good thing about Porterville is the people really want to help, even when bad things like this happen. On this occasion, most of those observing the first responders and the police shared looks of gladness. And if they could - without clogging up anymore traffic – stopped to thank those who do reacted so fast.
But since they were flagged on and flagged by and couldn’t say anything – the Post will say it for them – Good work guys. Folks tell the Post all the time … they pray everyday for your safety and thank God they know what to do. Especially when we kinda mess things up in the streets and rip up telephone poles and curbs with our cars.
As well, we encourage our readers to pray for the passengers of the Chevy pick-up and the Honda Accord for a speedy recovery.
