On January 27, 2009, Porterville Police Officer responded to the 99 Cent Store located at 825 West Henderson regarding a grand theft report of a lottery scam.
The 60 year old female victim was approached by an Hispanic Female informing her she had a winning lottery ticket worth thousands, however, she was unable to claim the prize because of her citizenship. A second subject, Hispanic Male, posing as a bystander, overhearing the conversation convinced the Victim of purchasing the lottery ticket for $3,000 in cash and another $2,000 in jewelry.
Both subjects informed the Victim to purchase stationary from the 99 Cent Store to document the transaction before turning over the winning lottery ticket. When the Victim returned to the parking lot, both subjects were gone. The lottery ticket turned out to be counterfeit.
The victim was able to provide a description of the suspect vehicle the female was driving as a, blue SUV with a partial license place number of ( 1W33 ).
