On January 10, 2009 at approximately 3:00 a.m. Officer Hatch stopped a motorist for a traffic violation near the intersection of Olive Avenue and Villa Street. The driver, Ronald Riggins, displayed the objective symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Mr. Riggins was arrested.
Passenger Luis Trevino was contacted and found to have three outstanding warrants for his arrest. A search incident to Mr. Trevino’s arrest yielded three counterfeit twenty dollar bills. Mr. Trevino also displayed the objective symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Mr. Trevino was also arrested.
Mr. Riggins was booked at the Porterville Police Department on a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance and released on a promise to appear in court.
Mr. Trevino was booked into the Tulare County Jail on a felony charge of possession of counterfeit currency, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and outstanding arrest warrants.
