Dear Editor -- This letter is intended to be a giant "Thank You " card to all the folks who chose to spend part or all of their Saturday at the Porterville Fair Grounds. The "Tea Party II" event was a great success because of you.
According to our sign in sheets we had people from Springville, Lindsay, Exeter, Strathmore, Ducor, Terra Bella, Camp Nelson, Bakersfield, Visalia, Porterville, and, Three Rivers. We even had some travelers from as far away as Arkansas.
Those 500 plus people who attended heard from a list of talented and informative speakers. They were entertained by several musical groups, singers, and local cheer leaders, all of whom volunteered their time and talent. A special thanks goes to Mitch Brown who served as our MC for the day.
To all of the members of our Porterville Patriots Tea Party group I want you to know this community is a better place because of you. Your contribution of time, talent, and money is unbelievable. You know who you are. You know what you did and I cannot thank you enough.
I would urge all readers to become more involved and more engaged in the Tea Party Movement. As citizens of this great country it is our responsibility to be active and informed participants. The upcoming candidate forums to be held later this month and next offer a great opportunity for us. I also invite you to join us at Centennial Park on Thursday April 15th. at 11:30. Bring your sign and let our local officials know how we fill about excessive taxes and spending. I also urge you to attend our next monthly meeting at Charlies on Monday May 10, 2010 at 6:00 P.M.
I will close with a quotation from Thomas Jefferson.
" Experience has shown that even under the best forms of government, those entrusted with power have in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny ; and... the most effectual means of preventing this should be to illuminate, as far as practicable, the minds of the people at large....
