Dear Editor, I came across your web-site and, on the basis of your willingness to categorize yourself and the site itself as conservative/Christian, we may be able to support each other.
The Porterville Public Library has a subscription to the magazine "Cosmopolitan" which has become pornographic and is available to patrons of all ages. (See Red-Hot Read, (PDF) an ongoing feature of the magazine.)
I've contacted an assistant librarian, the librarian herself, her supervisor, the mayor, the City manager, the vice mayor and as many local churches as have an e-mail address about the matter but none of them will address it; my posts are simply ignored.
The problem is that bureaucrats too often don't work on the basis of what is factual and reasonable; they need to count actual noses and I'm only one nose.
The churches, for their part, seem to have developed a "bunker" mentality: what goes on in the community at large is outside of their purview as long as their members, as a group, can stick together for mutual support. They seem to think that that's the best that they can do, and the best that they're willing to do, in what has come to be known as the culture war.
Would you and any others of your acquaintance be willing to accompany me in going into City Hall, confronting those responsible and being counted?
Thank You Very Much ... John Owens jackowens5328@sbcglobal.net from the Porterville area.
