Dear Editor, I am Steve Walker, pastor at Valley Oak Community Church and chaplain for the Porterville Police and Fire Departments. As you are all aware of the events that have taken place in our communities locally as well as across the nation we are a people in need of God’s heart infusing the hearts of people all around.
So with that in mind I would like to ask you, your staff, your congregations, your friends and anyone else who has a heart to see peace and order to gather tonight in front of City Hall for a Prayer Rally at 6:00 pm. This will be a time of showing support for our First Responders, City Leaders and our community through praying together.
Tonight, Tuesday June 2nd at 6:30 pm is the City Council meeting and at 6 pm is the shift change for the police officers when we can pray for them when the most possible are present for their safety, peace in our communities, our nation and our leaders. Our Nation needs healing that only can from the One true healer, Jesus.
This is not a protest, we do not want streets blocked or confrontations to take place. This is about prayer and support.
I will ask that the pastors gather at the steps of City Hall and we will lead and pray by example of kneeling (for those who are physically able) as we pray. We also will then walk around City Hall, the Fire and Police Departments as we pray.
Let you people know and encourage them to come and pray for peace, unity, justice for all and our leaders.
Respectfully, on Jun 02nd 2020, from Pastor Steve Walker From Valley Oak Community Church, Porterville, CA.
