Dear Editor, This letter has been sent to all city council members in Porterville ...
As the governing body of the city you have made it crystal clear publicly throughout the last 8 years, that you feel total contempt toward the lesbian, gay, bi, and transgender citizens of Porterville. You have also made it clear that the religious beliefs of the members of the community who espouse religious beliefs of bigotry and hatred, are more important to you than the rest of the citizens whose rights you are trampling on.
First you publicly support a vicious anti-gay Proposition 8, and then you rescind an LGBT Pride proclamation, because some citizens threw in the Bible in the city council chambers, where only the California and U.S. Constitutions govern.
All city governments in our country must comply with their respective state Constitutions, because the Bible has zero authority in an official government function.
Your infamous anti-gay voting record has been an embarrassment throughout the country. It is because of this that I am writing this email.
I hereby request a proclamation honoring the Human Rights Campaign be passed by the city council. For all the supporting you have done to the religious right that you have done, it is time you told the LGBT community that they are just as represented in their government as the religious bigots are.
Thank you ... Patrick Greene
P.S. And, According to the wording of the California Constitution, I do have standing
