Dear Editor, As I was in prayer this week an old hymn came to mind and my heart was stirred as I realized the profound message is still so relevant today during these unprecedented and challenging times. The hymn is entitled, “In Times Like These”. It was written in 1944 during perils times during World War II by Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan.
Today, we are waging yet another world war with a contagious disease, COVID-19. Yet as we experience what is happening around the world, we need to pause and take time each day to embrace the powerful and reassuring message of this hymn and many others like it. Their words still ring true today:
“In times like these we need a savior; In times like these you need an anchor. Be very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the solid rock. This rock is Jesus yes He's the one; this rock is Jesus the only one. Be very sure, be very sure; your anchor holds and grips the solid rock!”
As God’s children, it is in times like these we must remember whose we are and to whom we belong. It is easy to become discouraged, worried and fearful. But remember, we as believers have absolutes we can rest on. In times like these, we have a Bible, a Savior, an anchor, and a Solid Rock!
Let us never forget that God is never caught off guard. He is with us always even to the end of the world. He never leaves us, and never forsakes us. Now more than ever we need to learn to lean on Him, His Word, His promises, His Love, His Faithfulness, His Goodness…may we cling to Him, in times like these.
Scriptures:
“We are in this world but we are not of this world.” John 17:14
“For this world is not our home; we are looking forward to our everlasting home in heaven.” Hebrews 13:14
I know as a Church family we are all struggling with not being able to fellowship in our usual setting until further notice. Remember God’s presence and Holy Spirit transcends the buildings and the Church remains alive and well across the globe!
Pastors around the world continue to reach out via phone, e-mail, and texts and social media. We love you and prayerfully kneel with you and for you… “In Times Like These.”
Respectfully, Pastors David & Margie Estes From Strathmore, CA.
