THE RIGHT WORD - with Brother Scott

1 Chronicles 16:28-36 Give (give unto, put before Him) unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory (honor) and strength (force, the majesty, praise). 29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering (donation, a sacrificial bloodless voluntary offering, gift, present), and come before him: worship (to depress [humble], prostrate [face to the ground], bow, stoop) the LORD in the beauty of holiness. 30 Fear (twist or whirl, dance, wait carefully) before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. 31 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth. 32 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein. 33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth. 34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. 35 And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise. 36 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.

It takes three consecutive breaths for David to make the point that we are to “give unto the Lord”. In similar terms, you can think of giving to the Lord like this: “Hand over to God those things which He wants from us and the things He deserves from us”.

The Hebrew word that is used by the psalmist simply means “give” or to “put before” Him. A more definitive definition for our 21st century understanding today would include “to freely transfer the possession of something to someone [else]; to hand over to. To provide or supply with. To present without expecting compensation. To make a gift of.”

When You or I “Freely Give”
It Is Usually For Reasons Like These
1.) We agreed to give back, such as money borrowed or a thing that was lent to us (although many do not voluntarily pay back or return a borrowed thing)

2.) On some occasion we give a gift out of love, appreciation, or respect for another.

3.) We give another the honor that he or she is due either by their advanced age, accomplishment, or their rank or the authority over us.

4.) We hand over to God our lives as the purchased possessions they became when we were born again, forgiven for our sins and washed clean of them.

5.) We obey what God’s Word teaches us by giving our money, time or other service to Him and or to others in obedience and reverence to Him.

6.) As our Bibles teach us, we are to freely give unto the Lord our thanksgiving and honor, and our praise and worship.

7.) Such examples of the giving of these things are never done to get something back for ourselves but to honor, show respect, and to bless the receiver.

† Psalm 29:1 Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

† Psalm 96:7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.

† Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: 38 Give [sowing and reaping], and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

† 2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

† Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

† Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. 16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

THE FLIP-SIDE OF NOT GIVING
Have you ever considered the flip-side (the consequences) of not giving when you have agreed to, or you should, or are able to but you do not? By not giving back, giving into a good work or not helping when the lord has provided for you to

1.) When that which agreed to but not given back you will be sued in court and that also can happen by the hand of God.

2.) The blessing as a result of giving that you could have had will-not-come.

3.) Others will needlessly suffer and God takes notice of that.

4.) Nothing of heavenly treasures will be added to your account there.

† Psalm 116:12 What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? 13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. 14 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.

† Exodus 16:17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. 18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. 19 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. 20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

† Psalm 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

† Daniel 5:27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

† Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. 16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. (Jam. 2:15-16)

† Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

† 1 Chronicles 16:28 Give (give unto, put before Him) unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory (honor) and strength (force, the majesty, praise). 29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering (donation, a sacrificial bloodless voluntary offering, gift, present), and come before him: worship (to depress [humble], prostrate [face to the ground], bow, stoop) the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

YES Our voluntary “GIVING UNTO THE LORD” is two-fold

Freely giving of our time and service and our money into His work and to the lives of others, and the giving of thanksgiving and praise and worship unto God are proofs that we are being redeemed.

† 1 Chronicles 16:28 Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

David’s choice of the Hebrew word for our English word “fear” contains two sides of how we are to fear God. I see them as fear, which is to be genuinely intimidated and afraid before Him but which definition of the word as fear also includes being reverential and respectful of Him—even cheerful to the point of dancing.

But frankly, I do not believe that you can be genuinely reverential and respectful if you do not first understand that God is to be feared by His power over our lives now and into eternity, which fear fosters humility and reverence of God and all His ways.

“Fear before Him, all the earth”; as a teacher of God’s Word I could never say too much on this issue, especially in these last days and in the culture we now live in. A fear of God is sorely lacking in the body of Christ and even among many that are true and active followers of Jesus; so many take the demands of God’s Word upon our lives for granted.

As an example: God’s demand of being first place in all that we love, which leads to living in holiness (morally clean and fit for Heaven) before Him, followed by love and mercy toward our fellow man—these things like many others are not optional, yet few live this way.

A failure to live in the fear of God (be intimidated to alarm, fright) in light of His judgment of our individual lives one day [such a failure to fear God] is sheer foolishness!

And not growing in fear before Him (the respect, awe, and reverence due God) in this life by your heart’s devotion and expressions, and one day as you literally stand before Him, is to you now (and will be to you then) more costly than you can know.

† Psalm 128:1 Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

† Deuteronomy 5:6 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of ((the land of Egypt, from the house of)) bondage. 7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me. 8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: 9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God. . .

† Hebrews 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

If you know (really know!) and understand that God is eternal, has complete control of what happens to you in the eternity to come, which is based on how you lived here, especially after entering into covenant with Him by the shed blood of Jesus, you will be careful to fear Him because of what He can do in light of how you live holy or not, and you will daily make all the adjustments in your thoughts, words and deeds to live according to the demands of God’s Word. As the Bible teaches us, a healthy fear and fear is great wisdom!

† Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

† Proverbs 14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

† Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

TODAY Has been about our “GIVING UNTO THE LORD

Today has been about our giving unto the Lord and giving because of the Lord, which we will do if we have a genuine fear of the consequences of disobedience, which fear directs trains our lives to be sincerely reverent, humble, and in gleeful awe of our eternal God and Savior.
