If you are a student of the Word, then as you can, you read through all the books of the Bible from Genesis through Revelation. If you have a Bible that does so, whenever the Old Testament has a verse that is a direct prophecy about Jesus (His birth, its location, His life and mission and death) it puts a hollow star next to that verse. In the Gospels where that is then prophecy fulfilled, my Bible puts a solid star next to that verse indicating its fulfillment by that event.
The thing about His prophetic verses in the Old Testament is that they are usually obscure one-liners (just one or maybe two verses except of Isaiah 53) in the middle of some larger narrative and can be easily missed as prophetic even by those that might know it is prophetic about Jesus fulfilled in His earthly life 2000 years ago.
My point is that prophecies are generally slipped into the general text and not recognized as sure predictions until they come to pass and are reflected upon later.
Most are not aware of the prophesied future existence of the Bride, the Lamb’s wife. Yet, like the Old Testament’s unrecognized prophecies in the New Testament there are hints along the way that there is a Bride being “made” (built) and she will become the eternal help meet and companion of Jesus, the “Bridegroom” (6 times used in Matthew, which can possibly be attributable to Jesus; repeated twice in Mk and in Lk, and 2 different references in Jn).
I have shared with you some of what I think and much of what I believe regarding this issue that are found as statements in our Bibles in both testaments. These is a Bride to be chosen out-of the universal and true Church of these 2,000 years and to be in a fashion married (joined in a unique and very special relationship) to the Father’s only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
As we continue this discussion today, let me share these tidbits:
Let Me Broaden Your Perspective On This Point
Let me broaden your perspective on this point—that of building from existing materials (as He did Eve from Adam’s rib) and not simply creating the finished product exactly as God would want it—a wife for the Lamb that would be without spot or blemish, and that would be herself holy and deeply in love with her husband. It might be more easily understood why God could not simply create a loving and pure and holy wife with this following modern-day example:
Computers of these last 50 years or so only do what they are programmed to do—nothing more and nothing less. If you turn on most any computer today it will beep and flash and come alive in a fashion much like any appliance (television, fax machine, a cell-phone, and many autos today, etc.). Once it is turned on it simply waits for you to make it do something or tell it what to do next—other than that it simply sits there idle doing only what you have programmed it to do in its “wait state.”
But if you program a computer that has sound-making capabilities (type into its firmware or software the commands to) that at start-up it is to display a beautiful smiling face with lips that move and say, “Good morning, Sweetheart. You look wonderful today! What can we do together today that will make you happy?” that’s what it will do and say every time! Or how about, “Hello, Master. Your wish is my command—what are your instructions, oh great and worshipful one?”
Now I ask you, are you its “sweetheart” or do you really “look wonderful,” can you be “happy” together, or does it really worship you? No, of course not—those are simply the things you have arranged in advance for it to do and say.
Now let’s step out of the last 5 decades of computer advancements into this present time. In these days our technology has developed robots with the computer housed in a mechanical human form (including real-life faces), that now have a rudimentary vocabulary, some that are beginning to be artificially intelligent, that can carry on a limited discussion, that can execute a variety of man or woman-servant-type duties, and some that can even (shockingly enough) participate in certain sexual functions for and with a human.
What kind of genuine emotions can you feel toward something that was designed, built, and programmed in a very high-tech lab to do such things? In a fashion, it was created to say what you wanted to hear, do what you wanted it to do, and be to you what you wanted. It does not do those things on its own but is what it is because it was made to be exactly that way. It had no say in the process, no choice in the matter of who it would serve (no free-will), and it had no feelings of its own by which whatever it might say or do for you could be judged sincere or original.
The Father Wanted A Help Meet For His Son
The Father wanted a help meet for His Son—but how could that ever be without doing this sort of “robot thing” with flesh and blood human beings? Creating a super-Eve for Jesus would be little more than like our society creating a high-tech robot in super-model form for a man. That may be okay for washing his clothes or walking the dog but it is little more than a super-toy that any thinking, feeling human man might eventually set aside like some new-fangled exercise equipment.
The eternal Father wants something; He wants a living, breathing, thinking, loving and chaste bride for an eternity-long relationship with His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Father wants a bride that has come to know His Son, come to sincerely love Him so much that she (all the chosen members of the Bride) had given up everything else they had known that would possess them and want to instead be devoted to Jesus for all eternity.
By exercising her free-will she has turned her back on how she was born, that which are natural vanities in life, and while on the earth entered into a continuing purification process in order to one day be chosen to be His eternal companion—many without even knowing of that possibility.
And yet, the bride of the Lord Jesus Christ is unlike any wife-to-be that has ever or will ever exist because she is not just one human being but is the assembly of many thousands or more formerly mere human beings, male and female alike, who with one mind and one heart all feel the same way about the Lord Jesus.
Now to a man this seems an awkward thing—though not so much to a woman! As men we tend to think of a man and his “wife” as having to be male and female (as God created us) because of our perspective as human beings and especially as such a relationship has a vital sexual component designed by God for both pleasure and procreation.
Therefore, from the Lord’s perspective let us look squarely at this issue and understand His meaning for this future bride and wife for our own understanding, especially for the men that are part of the Bride. Eve was fashioned by God to be Adam’s “help meet”; what will the close companion of the Father’s Son be about?
The Help Meet Of The Lamb
The help meet of the Lamb will be a multitude of glorified men and women with one heart and mind and purpose that came about in their earthly lives by their growing devotion and resulting purification in every area of their lives. These men and women became (in a sense) wise virgins well beyond the issue of its human sexual connotations having become pure and holy in every aspect of their lives through the sanctification of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
Such ones are a suitable companion for God the Son—for Jesus, and will (as the Hebrew term help meet defines) surround Him continually with love and genuine devotion, will aid in the rulership of all creation-future, will go forth representing him to the four-corners of creation explaining His holy Word and announcing, making known, and foretelling God’s mind and wonderful plans to the praise of the Son’s glory, Who is Himself the Creator. The relationship between the Lord Jesus and His wife (help meet) transcends in unimaginable ways the kind of relationship a mere man and woman share on this earth.
“Help meet” means these things: a helper fit for Him, a helpful partner, a helper well-suited for Him, one fitted together with another in harmony, such as a B-flat and a G on the keyboard, “wife” is the correlative of “husband” (provides an important relationship).
Other examples that might help in our understanding of Jesus and His help meet of chosen ones: God the Father has an innumerable host of ministering spirits that work closely with Him (holy angels) and Jesus will have His help meet, Jesus had both His inner circle and then His 12 apostles after His return to Heaven, a maestro has the many-member musicians of his orchestra, the founder and head of a large business has many employees, and the professional pianist has the many keys on his piano.
I don’t know about you but I would like to be one of those keys on His keyboard—a member of those chosen to be the help meet, the very closest of helpers of the Lord in eternity.
What can be the differences between the more common and more lax spiritual lifestyles in the members of the whole Church today compared to those also in the Church that will be chosen to be the Bride of Christ and bonded to Him as His helpmeet? What things are said in the Scriptures that we should absolutely pay attention to in order to be at least working in the direction of being a chosen one?
Many Are Invited To Be Part Of The Bride
Many are invited to be part of the bride but a puny number are chosen. You have heard the basis for the fact of their being a bride-turned-wife (a help meet), and you have heard loud and clear that few by choice and staunch dedication will have lived-up to what the Word of God instructs us about living in a growing love relationship with Jesus (criteria 1) and in purity in our lives—the broad prescription for all the other areas of our individual lives as a follower of Jesus (uncompromised holiness).
As we know, God wants souls to be saved but He has also been patiently working to build someone to be His Son’s eternal soul-mate (in a manner of speaking) and this is a majority part of the grand plan of Elohim.
In our next and final part of this study we will look briefly at two other parts of God’s grand plan—at least as I have come to understand it.
